Here is a quick run down of what the IRATA course syllabus looks like:
IRATA L1
IRATA L1 is intended for anyone who has no previous Industrial Rope Access experience. IRATA L1 certification is for anyone that has to complete work at-height using an industrial 2 rope system. Upon successfully completion, you will be able to practice Rope Access as a technician for all IRATA member companies globally under the management of a L3 Supervisor. Things you'll learn include:
- Introduction to IRATA
- Care and maintenance of PPE
- Harness assembly
- Descender/Backup/Rope Clamps/Cowstails
- Ascent/Descent/Change Overs
- Ascent with Descender
- Descent with Ascenders
- Basic Anchors & Y Hangs
- Passing Deviations / 4 Rope Transfer
- Rope Protection
- Edge Obstruction
- Small & Large Rebelays
- Horizontal Aid Climbing
- Bagging/Coiling a rope
Pre-requisites
- You'll need to be at least 18 years of age and be able to provide government ID or passport details.
- You have good strength‐to‐weight ratio and average to good cardio fitness level.
- Healthy joints and full‐function of extremities (especially hands).
- Recommended maximum body weight of 220 lbs for people up to 6 ft tall.
IRATA L2
IRATA L2 certification is intended for anyone who has completed their L1 and meets the IRATA L2 prerequisite requirements for training admittance. The L2 course goes beyond the basics and focuses on advanced rigging techniques developed to achieve more complex access solutions. One and two person rescues will be emphasized. Things you'll learn include:

- Certification Validity, Medical Condition 014R
- Checking of Equipment
- Basic Rigging
- Forces & Angles
- Suspension Trauma
- Ascent & Deviation Rescue
- Rigging Re-belays & Deviations
- Mechanical Advantages of Hauling Systems
- Small Re-belay Rescue
- Rope to Rope Rescue
- Horizontal Aid Climb Rescue
- Rigging Edge Obstruction, With Rope Protection; Aid Climbing & Rescue
- Rescue from Shock Absorbing Lanyards
Pre-requisites
- Minimum of 12 months as a Level 1 IRATA Rope Access Technician
- Minimum of 1000 logged hours of rope access work
- Valid logbook signed off by an IRATA Level 3 Supervisor
- Valid L1 IRATA ID card
IRATA L3
IRATA L3 is intended for anyone who is required or interested in supervising a team of Rope Access technicians on a job site. This course will prepare applicants to lead their teams through complex and advanced rigging and rescue scenarios, while emphasizing the need for excellent leadership skills, paperwork, and job site management. Things you'll learn include:
- Equipment Set Up Theory & Practical
- Reviewing of Level 1 & 2 Syllabus
- Reporting & PPE Through Examinations
- Short Link Rescue
- Rescue Passing Knots
- Rescue Hauling, Passing Knot Rescue
- Large Re-belay Rescue; Rope Transfer Rescue
- Rigging with Rope Protection
- Review of Hauling Systems
- Team Rescue
- Supervision
- Validity of First Aid Certification
- Review of IRATA Certificate's Validity
- Check Log Books
Pre-requisites
